Issue 027

Hello Eric,

Welcome to The Newb Files, Issue 027.

And, thank you to my new subscribers. I appreciate it.

News

This is the 27th issue of my author newsletter "The Newb Files". It marks the fifth anniversary of my writing journey.

And the fourth anniversary of "The Newb Files".

As you age, you lose your sense of time. Even so, the last five years have passed in an eye blink. Do what you want, to get where you want. Now.

EXTINCTION SPECIES

I have finished three more full self-edits (one more to go) and cut over 7000 words so far in EXTINCTION SPECIES. I will shortly deliver my manuscript to three editors for pricing and comments. Woo hoo.

Stay tuned.

Space and War

As noted, I recently hit a long-awaited milestone with EXTINCTION SPECIES. Soon I will start working on rewriting my short story Space and War.

Other News

A short one this time. Ongoing work on my home to-do list and EXTINCTION SPECIES edits had priority.

The weird thing about beta readers is how they can trigger the author to see what everyone has missed.

Book Reviews

The Elvish Trilogy (Elvish, Elder, Ember)

by S.G. Prince

I purchased Elvish in the summer of 2020 through a 99¢ promotion on Kindle. I then promptly forgot about it. When I started reading it in early 2024, it amazed me on so many levels. As a reader and as a writer.

It was so good. The characters were amazing; the story was so engaging. I bought the second book as soon as I finished the first one. And so on.

I am not the target market for this story, yet I loved it. It says something about me, open-minded as fuck, and modest. Or more likely how good the books are, how good the writer is, that I was 10 to 15 percent into book two before I realized: hey, this is a romance.

Yes, it’s a romance: a fantasy, a war story, a clash of two peoples. Humans and Elves. Yes, Elves.

After I finished the trilogy, I immediately started again from the beginning. By the time our trip south in May rolled around, I was on book three (the second time around). I finished reading it (again) on our first day back home.

I look forward to rereading the complete series. Again and again. ...

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

And Finally. ...

I have deactivated my X (Twitter) account.
